Local History and Genealogy

LeRoy Gazette

LeRoy’s local newspaper, the LeRoy Gazette was published from 1826 to 1993.  You can now search this local newspaper online and from home.  Access is through an online genealogy resource called Ancestry.

There are two ways to view the newspaper.  Access to the entire Ancestry database is available on all Library computers.  Key in a surname and Ancestry scans the Gazette and, in addition, searches a vast selection of census data, birth, marriage, and death records, World War I draft registration information, Social Security death records, and immigration lists.

Or, you can access the Gazette on your home computer.  Home access does not include the additional resources that Ancestry has to offer.

The original microfilm is still available at the Library.  The microfilm can be viewed, printed or emailed from the Library’s microfilm machine.
